Mike has recently researched, written and produced a film called “Africa’s Greatest Explorer” which was first screened by The History Channel in October 2007. Mike's Executive Producer was Delissa Needham, from Unicorn TV.

Born 1960 in Africa. His family has a three generation History in East Africa.

Educated at Shebbear Collage North Devon, Lewes Technical College, Sussex and The London College of Printing.

1984 Mike bought a Photographic Studio, a four storey converted warehouse, in Bermondsey Street, London SE. For the next 15 years, he worked as a freelance, shooting studio and location photography for;

Companies; Yves Roche’, Juno Kitchens, Hermes, Cosmos Travel, Ectomorph, Cottars Safaris, Alex Walker Safaris, Raven Fantasy Armour, Regulation, Tempo Wigs, Sh!, Nomad Pictures, Athena International, Bemrose Calendars and She n Me.

Advertising Agencies and Design Groups; McCann Erickson, Andrew Derrick Associates, Moondance Media and Junction Designs.

Stock libraries; including the Hulton Deutsch Collection, Explor – France, Photorama – Netherlands, Orion Press - Japan, Mega Press – Japan, Zefa Picture Library and Picture Bank in London.

Magazines; Company, Vogue, Harpers Queen Magazines, Cleo Magazine  in Australia, The Observer, Blitz, Ritz, Swimwear USA, Creative Camera, Scenario, Penthouse and Playboy.

During this time, Mike developed a for passion working in video. He worked as an assistant producer for Programme 33 in Paris on their Old Man Cottar and  Boreales on Hiya Safari! Mike went on to direct show reels for Sarrumai and Cottars Safaris in Kenya, as well as a small series of Model Profiles documentaries and four photographic technique videos for White Stone Productions. He also directed Rubber Fetish Fashion show reel for Pussy Cat Productions.


2005 Whilst shooting normal photo assignments, Mike also worked as a cameraman for Zona Visual, shooting the sporting events “Iron Man” and Tres Islas on Lanzarote. These productions were syndicated to the Euro Sport channel.

2006 Mike started to research the history of East Africa and the journey of one of its earliest explorers, Joseph Thomson, who was the first European to explore East Africa and live to tell his tale. Mike spent time filming Stone Town in Zanzibar and aspects of Maasai culture in Kenya, producing a trailer, a website and a “Dummy” book for the project. Land Rover, Vodafone and Calumet Photographic sponsored the project, providing funds and equipment.

In 2007, Through Unicorn TV and Delissa Needham, The History Channel bought the broadcast European rights to the documentary, now called “Africa’s Greatest Explorer”. Mike researched, developed and directed the documentary which was screened on The History Channel on the 21st of October 2007. See the projects website www.throughmaasailand.com.

Later that year, Mike was commissioned as second camera and logistical co-ordinator to an Animal Planet production dealing with Global Warming issues and their effects on local Maasai communities. Series to be screened 2009.

2008 Following on the success his broadcast production/directorial debut, Mike is working on another documentary for The History Channel, as well as four other “African” genre broadcast projects.
